Mesynthes LImited, backed by MOVAC, has received a significant acknowledgement by winning the Wellington Supreme Gold award last night. Founded in 2008 by Dr Brian Ward, Mesynthes has developed a unique tissue substitute, derived from the forestomach of sheep, that supports and encourages tissue growth. The product is used to promote wound healing and in plastic surgery. Mesynthes received US Food and Drug Administration approval last year and expects to ship its first commercial product in the second half of 2011.
